Gmail shows a nasty red question mark instead of a profile picture for any emails sent by WP Mail SMTP. Is there any way to fix this?

From Email Not Updating

Hello,

I’m using the plugin to send WP emails via SMTP. The “From Name” field (WP admin – Settings – Email) works like a charm, but the “From Email” does not change the email address where my email is actually coming from.

Any suggestions? I’d love to get this fully working, so much easier/better than the other options available!

Thanks!

We have been using this plugin for about a week. We are having issues with the Lost Password email not being received by any users.

The Email test in the plugin works. And we are receiving emails form our WordFence plugin. It appears to only be the “Lost password” emails. Please advise.

Issues with rackspace smtp server.

Hi,

Need to know if I will be able to connect to rackspace smtp server: secure.emailsrvr.com

here is the log:
Connection: opening to ssl://secure.emailsrvr.com:465, timeout=300, options=array ()
Connection: Failed to connect to server. Error number 2. “Error notice: stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to ssl://secure.emailsrvr.com:465 (Connection timed out)
SMTP ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection timed out (110)
SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting

Rackspace support insist they does not block port 465.

I am able to send email on port 2525 ( unsecure connection ).

Any idea what is going on here?

Thanks,
-Sudd.

Broken in WP 4.8?

I noticed it has only been confirmed up to version 4.7.5

I am using Gmail with an account that does not have two-factor authentication. smtp.gmail.com on port 465 for SSL.

I have my username and password correct but every time I try the test email I get an error of can’t authenticate and the connection is closed.

I assume there was a change on googles side or WP side of how the handshake is handled and the plugin needs to be updated to handle the negotiation correctly.

Hope its an easy fix… Great plugin when working!!!

I get this message in debug mode:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at …./wp-content/plugins/wp-mail-bank/includes/translations.php:1) in …./wp-includes/option.php on line 837

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at …./wp-content/plugins/wp-mail-bank/includes/translations.php:1) in …./wp-includes/option.php on line 838

I don’t see it affecting the site yet, but I have had other plugins cause issues with this.

Problems with PHP version 5.6 or later

Hello good day,

I’m having trouble using this plugin with PHP version 7, I browsed around the plugin support forum, and the only topic I found was about a member asking if the plugin was compatible with PHP version 7.

Apparently the plugin is compatible with version 7, however it returns the following error after configuring and performing the tests:

Connection: Failed to connect to server. Error number 2. "Error notice: stream_socket_client(): SSL operation failed with code 1. OpenSSL Error messages:
error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed

Connection: Failed to connect to server. Error number 2. "Error notice: stream_socket_client(): Failed to enable crypto

Connection: Failed to connect to server. Error number 2. "Error notice: stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to ssl://localhost:465 (Unknown error)

SMTP ERROR: Failed to connect to server: (0)

SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting

I ran the tests with all versions available on my server and the plugin itself works with versions 5.4 and 5.5, the later versions return this error.

Apparently the problem that is happening is the SSL certificate verification as per the PHPMailer documentation:

https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting#php-56-certificate-verification-failure

In the documentation it explains that the correct one would be to replace the invalid, badly configured or self-signed certificate, but I have already contacted my server and I was informed that it does not have an SSL certificate for email shots, so failing that I would use The second option which is in the PHPMailer documentation, allow for insecure connections via SMTPOptions.Although it is not recommended, below is a code that can be added:

$mail->SMTPOptions = array(
    'ssl' => array(
        'verify_peer' => false,
        'verify_peer_name' => false,
        'allow_self_signed' => true
    )
);

I would like to know if you can help me with this, where can I add this code so that you can continue to use PHP version 7?

After all it is highly recommended to use more updated versions since version 5.6 will soon become obsolete in security issues.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

My website’s outgoing mail keeps sending to Junk…?

I have contact with my host and they said all my SMTP setup are correct.

At first, I was using a plugin named “SB Welcome Email”, this helps to edit the welcome email when I manually add user into my website. But this email always went into junk mail.

Today I decided to figure out the problem but then I found it pretty much every outgoing email from my website “Contact form 7”, and the test email sent by this plugin went into Junk inbox. It wasn’t like this before…

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

(I created a new gmail to test and yes, all of them went into spam mail)

Any help will be really really appreciated!

Office 365 – connection refused

Hi, hope someone can provide some help, or insight into this issue for me…

Trying to use WP-Mail-SMTP with Office365 and I’m getting the following error:

Error notice: stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to smtp.office365.com:587 (Connection refused)

My web host says:

“They have multiple IP’s bound to the hostname. Some of them are IPv6, which is not yet supported by our server. Bellow is my test that shows once it tried an older IPv4 IP address, it was able to connect.”

However I get exactly the same error when I try using the IPv4 IP address, even though my host says he can open a connection to that IP directly from the server.

Our email admin says he hasn’t come across the issue before, and Office365 suggested asking WordPress support.

My research found a few people who had this issue who discovered it was their host blocking certain ports on their firewall, my host assures me this is not the case.

Has anyone any pointers on how I might proceed to try to resolve this?

Plugin conflict with Gravity Forms (slow submission times)

$

On a fairly high-traffic site, I have been dealing with lags in Gravity Forms submissions, with times up to 50 seconds before getting a confirmation page. Naturally, I reached out to my host (Flywheel) and the Gravity Forms plugin support first.

Both have come back and said it was an issue with the amount of time it took the server/SMTP to send notifications. Flywheel support specifically called out this plugin:

After deactivating all plugins, and activating them one by one, it turns out the WP-Mail-SMTP plugin is the culprit.
When that plugin is deactivated, the form submission for the Contact Us page takes 951 milliseconds. With that one plugin activated and no other changes, the form submission takes 20 seconds.
Even with every single plugin activated except WP-Mail-SMTP, the form submission took just 1.76 seconds.
We’re not entirely sure why that plugin would conflict with the sending, I realize it’s an important plugin for email sending so I’m not saying the simple solution would be to deactivate that plugin. It might be worth contacting the plugin developer to see why it is conflicting with Gravity Forms?

Any thoughts or ideas on things I can do/solutions to look at to resolve this? Both are kind of important.
