wp_mail() doesn’t do what “TEST EMAIL” does

I am trying to send emails from my website. As in: Someone signs up, so they get sent a mail. No plugins to interfere, unless Smush and Hello Dolly are evil! All original script. When I send a test email via the WP Mail SMTP settings any mail address works fine. But when I try and use wp_mail() in a basic test script it suddenly decides that Gmail, Exchange and the biggies are ok, but the lesser-knowns are a no-go. So what is the “TEST EMAIL” function doing that isn’t translating to wp_mail(), making it prefer some addresses over others? Something in the core PHPMailer script maybe? Please help!

I’m following the guide on https://wpforms.com/how-to-securely-send-wordpress-emails-using-gmail-smtp/ to send as my gmail account.
When I got to the Authorize step, I clicked the “Allow plugin to send emails using your Google account.” button. After I logged in, I saw this page:

Cannot authorize

Hi,
All fine until Authorization. Once click on authorization it is letting me to select the email. Once I click on email it is getting me to Back to Safety error. Whether I proceed, it is not get authorized and it is redirecting to 404 error page.
How can I fix this ?

but i am constantly getting various errors. in the beginning i had an error stating that my SMTP plugin wasnt sending any emails. so then i followed the article and now i am getting a different error :
There was a problem while retrieving Auth for mail: Class WPMailSMTP\Providers\Mail\Auth does not exist
initially this problem started because i wasnt able to send my verification email address to my new email. after days of trying to fix this i am stuck here. any help would be appreciated. i have uninstalled the plugin and started fresh three times. i always run into this error

Compatibility with Exim

I installed this plugin and use it with my Exim email server. I can send test emails only if i set Encryption to None. If I set Encryption to SSL or TSL, test mails can’t be sent. Are there any compatibility issues with Exim? What email servers should be used as i want to use encryption?

How to change receiver name ?

I changed From Name to “Help Desk” to show that name when I receive an email. But it is always showing me the receiver name as “Email Address I used to setup SMTP”.
How can I fix this please ?

wordpress returns 404 when activated

Hi
recently I moved to a new environment based on Apache 2.4 and PHP 7.28 in Beanstalk. Then I downloaded plugin as usually do and when I was in admin panel and clicked on activate, WP returned a 404 error:

Save sent email to account Sent Folder

This plugin authenticates via SMTP to send mail. Great!
But we would like all messages sent via the plugin to be SAVED in the Email Account SENT folder.
Any way to achieve this?

Defining ‘WPMS_SMTP_USER’ returns blank value

Hi there!
Great work with this plugin, we find it works really well.
We have come across an issue however when we are defining SMTP settings in wp-config.php.
Everything is pulled in, except for ‘WPMS_SMTP_USER’; this remains blank. When it is defined, the SMTP username is disabled within WP Admin area, but remains empty and no value is sent during the SMTP auth stage. Is there something we are missing?
An example of what we are defining in wp-config.php is below:
$smtp_username = ‘testuser’;
$smtp_password = ‘testpass’;
$smtp_host = ‘testhost’;

After “Allow plugin to send emails using your Google account” button it says “There was an error while processing the authentication request. Please try again.”
I’ve done it three times through following “How to Securely Send WordPress Emails Using Gmail SMTP with WP Mail SMTP” tutorial and always same error.
I also did this already: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en (“Let less secure apps access your account” if the link is not allowed here)
What is going on?

I use the plugin with ‘other SMTP’ without encryption but authentication. This works remote and the return is bool true (1).
When I try the same on localhost with identical configuration it works fine too but returns:

test email works but activation email not received

hello! i’ve set things up according to the instructions for Other SMTP. The test email works fine but when I tried to add a new user, the new user doesn’t receive any activation email in his email. The activation email isn’t in his spam either. What should the settings be to ensure the mail gets properly sent? Thank you!

SMTP setup error

Hello,
I’m developing a landing page and at the moment I’m working on localhost.
I installed Contact Form 7 to send emails directly from the page, but these end into the spam folder in Gmail.
To sort out the problem I installed WP mail SMTP plugin.
I tried to set up the SMTP for gmail but when I tried to test the sending of an email I got the following message: “There was a problem while sending the test email.”
It says it could not autenticate your SMTP account.
I know there are two ways to set this up, one using an API key and the second using other SMTP options.
Seen I’m working on localhost at the moment I opted for the second option.
The informations I provided are:
SMTP host: smtp.gmail.com
Encription: TLS
SMTP port: 587
SMTP user name: the mail address I use to enter the gmail account
SMTP password: the password I use to enter the gmail account
I am sure I did something wrong, but this is the very first time I use this plugin and this method.

it looks like in order to use ‘WP MAIL SMTP’ it is a requirement to also download ‘Contact Form by WPForms’.
this is stated under Installed Plugins -> ‘Install Required Plugins’
so basically WP MAIL SMTP will not work without Contact Form by WPForms?
